Celebrating Women in the Arts

“I raise my voice—not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard…We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.” -Malala Yousafzai

I had the pleasure of working with Melissa and her production team at The Drawing Studio, a non-profit organization in Tucson in a collaborative video effort to celebrate female artists in Tucson for Women’s History Month. Here’s a tiny behind-the-scenes (BTS) sneak peek for y’all!

It is an honor to be interviewed by Melissa alongside artists like the amazing Randeisia Fletcher (her Tuesday classes have been my monthly highlight), and Laura Milkins and Cecilia Miller. And thanks to Melissa’s team Anthony and videographer Dan for a smooth setup and process! I had so much fun y’all! 💕

Watch the full video here on their Youtube channel.

This was such a neat opportunity. I share some of my experiences as a #pacificislander in art spaces which aligns so perfectly with May being Pasifika Heritage Month. Grateful for my artist mentor Randesia whose Tuesday classes first introduced me to the Drawing Studio space last year when I really needed a community.

Here are a couple of my favorite shots from filming. Our filmmaker Dan has an eye for storytelling and I love how he weaves my story as an artist and as a mother in my studio and home. It is so fun to work alongside other creatives.

And check out their monthly classes offered both in person and online. I will be offering printmaking classes as soon as our sweet little girl is vaccinated.
